Are you having problems charging your iPad when connected to the computer? Do not worry; many iPad users experience the same problem. Your iPhone or iPad may not have any issues charging from the USB port of your computer, but the iPad needs much more power than what can be supplied by a computer USB port. This means that some of the USB ports, especially those on the old computer models, do not have enough power to charge your iPad.

How to Find if your iPad is Charging

If the USB port has enough power to charge you iPad, you will be able to see a lightning bolt appearing on the middle of the battery meter, located on the upper right hand corner of the iPad screen. If the port does not have enough power to charge your iPad, a message saying, “Not Charging”, will be displayed to the battery meter of the device.

The iPad can be charged even when it is in suspended mode, but if the computer is turned off or suspended the iPad will not be charged. The easiest way to solve USB charging issues in iPads is to charge it from a wall socket using the charging adapter that comes with the device. This is one of the fastest ways to charge an iPad. Even computer USB ports will not be able to charge the iPad as fast as the charging adapter.

If the iPad does not Charge from the Outlet

The first thing that you need to ensure is that the iPad does not have any software issues. If there aren’t any software issues, you may try rebooting the iPad. To do this, you need to hold down the suspend button at the top of the iPad. This will bring a red button instructing you to turn off the device. Let the device power down completely. After waiting for a few seconds, you can hold down the suspend button again to power it on.

If the device is still not charging from the wall socket, there might be issues with the adapter or cable too. If there is any issue with the cable, you can find it quickly by connecting the iPad to your computer with the cable. If the cable is okay, you will see the lightning bolt near the battery meter. If this is the case, you will need to get a new adapter.
